Re: The treasure of the cat kind
"I do see yellow flowers. Don't really see them turning purple, though..."
May it be that Amir is the one who can't see it because of how the compound works on him? He was sure it did nothing, but did it, really?
"What about everyone else?"
"I... Still see stuff, but nothing with these flowers. It's kinda personal. I think I know what's real, but won't bet on it, so... That's gonna be f-ing interesting", - Rimmer clearly wasn't getting any of this nonsense.
"Also nothing about the flowers. They are way lovely, though." - Max was probably high... Or maybe he was just like that?
"Please, don't touch them!" - Amir and Rimmer shouted in union.
"I've heard another story about poisonous flowers that looked differently for different people... Some sort of Anere-Taio trap. I believe alcohol turned out to help at the end..."
"Please, let's not to. This whole expedition started with you dearing me to fight a snake with my bare hands and me agreeing to it, we shouldn't be drinking together at the best of times. If you feel like you know where to go - let's go, we won't find any more information here"
"There" - Max pointed at seemingly random direction with total confidence. "It... Pulls me in that direction, I can't explain it any better."
They were doing something weirdly similar a lifetime ago, on the strange planet in Twilight Circle. They had no idea where to go, but they were dealing with magic that was favouring confidence and sensed anxiety, so they had to just have a strong intention and confidently go whenever. Here's no magic, and the only thing they are gonna achieve going in random direction is getting lost. But they had a chemical affecting them, that... At least Max believed was something much more than a non-lethal poison.
